Fast-forward to summer 2008, thirteen years after the very first Utopia series appeared and the rumours that Focal have been working on the third generation range are confirmed as the Grande EM, Scala and Diablo are announced. Focal’s design team consider that they have a tremendous benefit over most of their competitors, in that they manufacturer just about the whole loudspeaker in-house. Apart from a driver’s chassis and magnets they control every other facet of manufacture, allowing them to jump at the top by designing the flagship.
